Stop and smell the roses
"Life moves pretty fast, if you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." – Ferris Bueller
Flowers don’t bloom forever, you have to be present to appreciate them.
In my garden, I have a variety of flowers, and being home to watch them bloom is something I no longer take for granted.
Back in 2017, when I was just starting my business, I also took up gardening.
In tilling the soil and caring for plants, I learned a lot, not just about gardening, but about life.
I had lived in my house for three years before then, and never once noticed all the beauty around me.
I was moving too fast.
The last five years of business were the hardest.
I nearly lost everything.
When your identity is tied to work and money, losing both can send you into a spiral.
Gardening became my way to reconnect with the natural rhythm of life, and oddly enough, it helped me understand business better than any book ever could.
Flowers and business follow the same natural laws.
Watching a plant grow teaches patience, resilience, and timing.
The business cycle from 2017 to 2024 was brutal, drought, pests, and poor soil, if you will.
But instead of giving up, I did the work.
I tilled the soil of my life.
I pulled the weeds, I watered, I enriched the ground, and then:
I waited.
Because here’s the truth: You can’t force a flower to bloom.
It happens in its own time.
Business is the same way.
I don’t know if the next seven years will be a season of growth, but standing in my garden, smelling the roses, I feel hopeful.
Spring is in the air, did you stop and smell the roses?
