sometimes we get stuck
For most of my driving life, I’ve had trucks.
Sure, there was a brief stint where I drove a Corvette, a Honda, and a Toyota. But deep down?
I’ve always been a truck guy.
And this year, I’ve managed to get that truck stuck at least four times. Not stuck in traffic, stuck stuck.
Mud up to the doors. Spinning tires. Tow straps and prayers kind of stuck.
It’s not that I go looking for trouble, but somehow I find myself off the beaten path, literally.
The smart, safe move would be to stick to the road. Smooth pavement, predictable outcomes, no need for four-wheel drive.
But that’s not where I live. I end up in the mud. I flip it into 4x4, kick in the diff lock, but sometimes, even that’s not enough.
Here’s the truth I’ve learned:
Having a truck with a winch and big bumper is kind of like having a college degree.
Looks great.
Feels like you’re prepared for anything.
But when you’re buried deep, when you’re really stuck, those things won’t always get you out.
You know what does?
A phone.
That little tool has gotten me out of more messes than I can count. Not because it has some magical app, but because it lets me do the one thing that actually works: call a friend.
And that’s the real message.
We all like to think we can handle things on our own.
That we’ve got the tools, the gear, the know-how to muscle through anything.
But life has a funny way of humbling you. No matter how prepared you are, you’re going to hit a soft spot now and then.
When that happens, don’t sit and spin your wheels.
Call someone.
Ask for help.
We weren’t built to do this thing alone.
I doubt I’m done getting stuck on the road or in life.
That’s part of choosing the road less traveled.
It’s messy.
It’s unpredictable.
And it’s 100% worth it.
Because every time I dig out, I come back with a better story.
