a new complexity
55,000 square feet of space, and I get to build out the offices.
This week, I walked the job site for our next big project: an interior buildout that includes offices, conference rooms, and the lobby.
A sizable carve-out of a massive footprint that will soon become HQ for an electric supply company.
I’ve seen tilt-wall buildings go up for years, but this is the first time I’ve been this close.
As I studied the site, the wheels in my head started turning. Curiosity kicked in.
Quiet confidence followed: You got this.
My role in this symphony of steel and concrete?
Install doors, frame walls, hang drywall, and craft custom pieces for the lobby and conference room.
Up until this week, the project lived in my head, visions formed from the plans.
But now, I see it coming together.
Soon, it’ll be my turn.
This moment takes me back to my O&G days.
Walking this site feels like stepping onto a rig for the first time.
Back then, the voice in my head said, “You’re way over your head.”
Now, the voice says, “You got this.”
In 17 years, I went from being a “worm” on a rig to running a product line overseas, a businessman with the skills to conduct business in four languages.
When I was in my 20s, I pictured 48 differently.
I imagined I’d be coasting, eyeing the last seven years before riding off into the sunset with millions.
Instead, I’m standing here facing a new complexity, a new system to learn and master.
And honestly? That’s what makes it exciting.
Change drives growth.
I don’t know exactly where this road will lead.
But if the second half of this journey is anything like the first, fun times are ahead.
To those following along:
This adventure is yours to build. The sky is the limit.
