Chapter 3: Look up

Defeated, my energy gone, my resources gone, in quiet desperation I asked for help. You were there, you lifted me from my despair and placed me on solid ground.

The foundation of my entrepreneurial journey is based on only two things, my Faith and my Family.

In 47 years of wandering this planet I have seen the hand of something greater at work all around me. There were events that can only be attributed to a divine presence. Over these last 7 years I have leaned into my Faith more than ever.

I have done all the things this world has asked of me. I have worked since 12, I have paid my taxes, and I have pursued education to its highest calling. Yet, all that the world has to offer is nothing compared to the gift of Faith.

Over the past 4 years I really dove into Faith. I studied the various holy books from the Quran to the Bhagavad Gita and spend every bit of 10 years practicing meditation. All of this searching only strengthened my Faith, it reinforced within me a truth, a lens through which I faced the trials of each day.

The pictures of Christ the Redemer was taken when I lived in Rio in 2013-2014. Living in Rio taught me so much. I was especially inspired at how in every action big and small, everyone gave thanks to God, it was magical. Gracias a Deus, Si Deus quiser, oh the stories I could tell.

I recall one story in particular. I had a driver when I was in Rio. On a particular morning he was driving me to my office and brought up an interesting topic. He said, if you ever need an airplane, I know a guy with a private jet.

I laughed it off. We joked about it on the remainder of the drive as he boosted me up as the “big boss” and such.

We were having a meeting with all of the managers, the entire leadership team was in that meeting, we were all 4-5 hours away from Rio.

A little after lunch one of the managers received a frantic phone call from his wife’s cell phone. His wife had just been run over by a city bus and someone used her phone to call him.

As soon as he hung up the phone his face was white as snow, tears welled up in his eyes. He spoke softly, I need to get home, now, fear had begun to sink in.

The room was quiet, my boss asked if anyone had any ideas. I spoke up and said, I know where we can get a private jet. I made a call to my driver and he informed me the jet was touching down. Within 30 minutes of the call, my friend was heading to the airport.

Long story short, he made it back to Rio in record time and was able to be with his wife. She sustained some injuries but came out ok.

The reason I tell this story is that we are all part of a much bigger story, HIS story. We are all important, we all matter.

I have learned to lean in, I have begun to shed the bagges of worry. I tried for many years to do it on my own, and it was not until I reached the bottom in 2022 that I looked up and asked for help.
